Journal Video #7 Dec. 18th 2008

Video Journal #7 Dec. 18th 2008 from Paul Jones on Vimeo.

I am learning the valuable skill of performing an annual inspection on an aircraft. Every aircraft must be thoroughly inspected at least once per year. Every critical system and component is checked for discrepancies and general wear and tear. Normal servicing is performed and discrepancies are fixed. This aircraft is owned by my team leaders father-in-law. It comes from Zimbabwe and after inspection will be sold. Some of the profits of the sale will go to benefit MMS. This has been an awesome opportunity to experience new procedures.

Journal Video #6b November 1st 2008 from Paul Jones on Vimeo.

Watch this video SECOND - Watch #6a FIRST!

Two part video about a problem found while executing the initial test flight preflight inspection. This aircraft was tossed by storm winds in Africa. It was flipped over onto another parked aircraft. The one year restoration is coming to a close. This will be the first time the aircraft has flown since being restored.

What an awesome project to be a part of! After flying high performance multi engine aircraft for nearly ten years, I am finding great enjoyment in the opportunity to work on one. This aircraft is a King Air 200 twin turboprop aircraft operated by Gospel Carriers International (GCI). Turboprop (jet engines with propellers) aircraft are more complex machines. We provide much of the maintenance for GCI which uses the aircraft to ministry to Chinese nationals living in North America. Great experience on a type of aircraft which is finding increasing use on the mission field.

JOURNAL VIDEO # 4 - September 27th 2008 from Paul Jones on Vimeo.

This video shows the project I am currently assigned to. This is a Super King Air 200belonging to Great Commission International. GCI uses the aircraft to travel around North America starting churches in Chinese comunities as well as mentoring and descipling Chinese speaking Christians.

This is a temporary assignment and I will return and help finish the African MAF Cessna 206 you saw me talk about in earlier videos (Journal Videos #1 and #3).

JOURNAL VIDEO # 3 - August 24th 2008

JOURNAL VIDEO # 3 - August 24th 2008 from Paul Jones on Vimeo.

Well, Week three is behind me and I have been thoroughly enjoying my new surroundings. This week I joined a production team as an apprentice. I join Dale Coats who is my team leader (experienced missionary aircraft mechanic) as well as Gertjan Kamphorst (from Holland) who is an apprentice 1/3 of the way through the program. Our current project is a Cessna 206 (pickup truck of missionary aviation) belonging to MAF mission organization. This aircraft was tossed by a tornado while serving in the African mission field and will return to Africa when work is complete. What an awesome first project to be involved in!

JOURNAL VIDEO # 2 - August 17th 2008 from Paul Jones on Vimeo.

Since beginning hangar service at Missionary Maintenance Services (MMS Aviation) 2 weeks ago, I have been undergoing basic training. This has included missions preservice orientation as well as technical skills training. One of the skills I was trained in this past week was welding. In this video I explain some of the basic training I have undergone as well as share some personal insight.

I would like to keep in touch through a JOURNAL VIDEO every 1 to 2 weeks. These simple Journal Videos will be a couple minutes long and give you information on what is happening with my service at MMS as well as in my life. Thank you for your prayers as I begin this exciting phase of God's call to missionary aviation.

VIDEO NEWSLETTER # 1 08/01/08

Missions Video Newsletter from Paul Jones on Vimeo.

This is my first attempt at a periodic video newsletter. In addition to my normal written newsletters, I plan on producing at least two or three of these videos per year. My hope is to effectively share life as a missionary pilot/mechanic in order to inform, inspire, share my life, and most importantly to glorify God.
*** This first video newsletter was produced in the spring of 2008. During production of the video I was working full time as a captain for Chautauqua Regional Airlines. Simultaneously, I was raising the financial support necessary to pursue my call to serve as a full time missionary bush pilot. I have completed support raising for now (God's awesome provision!), quit my job with the airlines, and am preparing to begin work in August 2008 as an apprentice aircraft mechanic. This apprenticeship will provide me with the necessary experience to serve not only as a pilot, but also as an aircraft mechanic. This skill is important because my work as a missionary bush pilot will involve bringing the good news of Jesus Christ and humanitarian relief to remote places of the world. No AAA there folks!***
